Promotional movie posters are designed to advertise upcoming releases in order to boost box office takings. For a movie poster to be a success, it needs to be visually arresting and although bright colors are scientifically proven to catch the human eye more easily, black and white posters often take the most powerful hold over us. You’ll notice that while all the posters below are essentially black and white, many do use touches of color to draw attention to the title or release date.
This week’s Inspiration is the clean, modern work of Graphic Designer & Art Director Louis Beaudoin. Louis lives in Montreal, and creates some very cool, crisp, professional work for a variety of clients. His work leans more toward minimalism, and makes great use of typography.
Krzysztof Domaradzki is a Polish graphic designer and illustrator, and the design mind behind Studio Kxx. His work is very cool, and pretty unique. Lots of attention to detail, interesting & different layouts, etc. Has a lot of mixed media work, and same more traditional art style paintings as well.
A vector portrait is a computer-generated work of art made up of lines filled with blocks of color. Most vector portraits are based on photographs, so look pretty realistic in terms of form, but the colors used can vary wildly from natural skin shades to intense, kaleidoscopic tones. The color palette chosen has a direct influence on the mood and atmosphere of the artwork itself, teaching the viewer lots about the personality of the portrait’s subject and their relationship with the artist.
Today’s inspiration post is the great work of Chelsea Conboy. She is a Seattle-based Designer/Illustrator, and has an extensive, and very cool, portfolio. You’ll probably recognize the Bumbershoot logo for instance! :)
Today’s inspiration is the work of artist Luke Kopycinski. His stuff is really high-quality, unique, and pretty different from the types of things I normally share with yall. A lot of Luke’s work is concept work for the gaming industry. But his techniques and results are really awesome, and can be super inspirational for your web/print work.
