Today’s Inspiration comes to us from Jakub Stępień aka Hakobo. He has recently published a beautiful showcase of his work, (HGW: Hakobo Graphic World) and even did an exhibition along with it. I’m including a bunch of pictures of the book itself, and some cool pictures from the exhibit. Before I share that, here is a little bit more about Hakobo, and about HGW:
Jakub Stępień aka Hakobo (born 1976) is currently listed among the world’s top fifty most important poster artists (according to John Foster, author of New Masters of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century). He feels at home in visual identity, activities bordering art and design and the generally understood utalitarian graphics. He collaborates with many cultural institutions in Poland, e.g. The Art Museum in Łódź, CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, Design Gallery BWA Wrocław.
HGW: Hakobo Graphic World is Jakub Stępień’s first monographic publication in the form of an artistic book. It covers a catalogue of Hakobo’s numerous projects – posters, visual ID’s, exhibition layouts, publications, as well as the limited edition of clothes and accessories. The attractively designed album breaks away with the tradition of “artist’s catalogue” and shows Hakobo’s output as a clear aesthetic system, consistently displayed in his works.
The presentation of Hakobo’s artworks in Design Gallery gives up with traditional form of graphic exhibition. The works are exposed in specially made scenery which involves the furniture collection designed by Hakobo. Works selection is dictated by the need of total look at designer’s output. In exhibition is highlighted artist’s favourite tricks and motives. The intention of organisators is a presentation of Hakobo’s works in their natural surroundings (posters sticked straightly to the wall, T-shirts in the wardrobe etc.). There was various events/actions during the vernissage - a book promotion, author’s meetings and improvised home parties.
HGW: Hakobo Graphic World exhibition is a herald of Out of Sth Presents festival which presents many international artists, e.g. Mudwig (UK), Fefe Telavera (Spain), Thomas {ths} Schostok (Germany) and M-City (Poland).
HGW was curated by Katarzyna Roj (BWA Wrocław) and Wojtek Piotrowski (Juice).
