Alright, It’s time for some more forever-useful (until outdated :) ) resources. Last time I brought you specifically CSS resources, but this time it’s a bit more broad. I’m covering alot more topics, and this is more of a ‘general’ resources list. I am sure I am missing some stuff, so you are more than welcome to add your favorite resources to the comments, and lets make this a very complete list :) Enjoy.
(The list covers several different topics, so I just mainly seperated it into 3 main groups for easier browsing)
CSS Boxes
Blank CSS templates. Very useful standards-complient tool.
CSS Typeset
Helpful for beginners, or to maybe speed up coding, a CSS generator for type styles.
.htacess Editor
Create .htaccess files online, with no coding knowledge. Chose your options from a list of drop down menus, and then copy and paste the provided code.
Clean CSS
A online tool that formats and optimizes your CSS. You can even choose whether you want the output more readable (bigger size) or unreadable (smallest size). Cool little tool.
CSS, Accessibility and Standards Links
A HUGE list of links to everything related to CSS, Accessibility and Standards. Awesome resource.
Sperling.com
A cool free CSS horizontal drop down menu.
PHP Form
Create php forms quickly.
Cheat Sheet Round Up
A really great coding cheat sheet round up from Smashing Magazine. Includes nearly anything you can think of.
Optimize Your Code
40 Tips for optimizing your php code.
Exploding Boy
14 cool free vertical CSS menus.
Web Design References: CSS
A huge list of links to all things CSS. A very good resources.
Web Design References: PHP
From the same site as above, a huge list of links for PHP.
The Web Developer’s Handbook
Yet another ‘mega link round up.’ This one is called ‘The Web Developers Handbook" and has an incredible amount of resources.
Blue Vertigo
Another one! This is an epic link dump called Blue Vertigo. Tons of stuff.
Resources For Web Design
Another ‘mega link round up’ for web design.
Open Source Living
Very cool list of open source programs and applications. It’s really amazing what’s out there, and this helps organize it somewhat.
Principles For Good Web Design
Great article written by Collis about essential principles of good web design.
CSS Layout Tools
Vandelay Design is a pretty well known company/site, and they put together this awesome list of ’22 Resources to Easily Create CSS Layouts’
Browser Shots
A hugely useful online tool that provides you with screen shots from a huge list of different browsers and versions.
Social Marker
Submit your post a bunch of different social bookmarking sites at once. Also has a button you can add on your site.
Pipe Bytes
Awesome online tool to send files of any size to anyone. No program or software, you just need a web browser.
Type Tester
A great tool for comparing three screen fonts side by side. It’s great for picking between fonts for a project, etc.
Colour Lovers
GREAT resource for color and patterns. All types of stuff here. I’m sure alot of people have been here, but if you haven’t, go now!
Kuler
A site about color by Adobe. Very cool.
Colorzilla
Cool FireFox extension that allows you to get the color code for anything in your web browser. Has an eyedrop feature like photoshop.
Da Font
Good place for free fonts. Though it’s like every place with free fonts, you have to do some searching to find quality stuff.
Ink Scape
An open source vector graphics editor.
Design Resource Search Engine
A custom google search engine that searches design related sites. Great for finding freebies, textures, etc. Sacha, who create it, was nice enough to add this site as well :)
FontStruct
A really cool FREE online font builder.
BG Patterns
A tiling background generator. Very cool tool, and there are tons of options and stuff to choose from. Very customizable.
Superscreen Shots
Take full-size screenshot of any website. Just type in the address, and it’s brings you the screen shot pretty quick.
Icon Buffet
Cool resources for free icons.
Stock Vault
Free stock photography. The site says "11175 free stock photos online."
Texture King
Has a bunch of free textures. Really cool stuff.
SquidFingers Patterns
Some really cool patterns. Free to use and everything! There are 158 patterns and the styles vary.
Free WP Themes
A cool group of free wordpress themes. Their all fairly simple, but nicely done, and easy to customize. Great start and a real time saver.
WP Themes Free
Another place for free wordpress themes. This place has a TON. Alot of then are so so, but the site is easy to sort, and find what your looking for. Sometimes you can find some good themes.
Useful WordPress Plugins
Great list of Useful WordPress plugins. There are a lot out there, so just like themes, you have to weed through and find that good ones.
Create Your Own WordPress Theme – Tutorial
A GREAT tutorial on creating a WordPress theme from scratch. This site has since switched owners and has altogether stopped posting, but this post is still a great source of information.
100 Free High-Quality WP Themes
Great list of 100 free high-quality WordPress themes. Also, don’t forget about our WordPress section :)
WP Themer Kit
This is an awesome pack of blank WordPress themes, that are very easy to customize. They are a great way to have a standards compliant start, and it really saves some times. Comes with all of your standard column, header, footer, variations.
